How God got us to Guatemala for this adoption...

First I want to tell you that I am going to take a few days off to be with family-we need some time together and I would covet your prayer for our time together. Our three little ones haven't had as much family time yet, and many times they don't know how to work together as a team, though they are learning.

Two things in specific I would love prayer for; first is for my 6 year old dd (new to us)-time to get her to "slow down" and work on her speech. (it has gotten better, but it is still hard to understand her sometimes) *I'd love to hear from you on ideas for speech-she really mostly is leaving off alot of "end" sounds. When she arrived last May, it was beginning, middle and end-so hey, we are making progress. Number two, my new 5 year old son is showing some food issues-he tends to eat way fast and is obsessed with food. I have worked one adopted child through this, but it was a long tiring (exhausting) road-she is much better now at 8. Having the wee ones join us seemed to really heal her, can't explain it, but now I am going through it again. (maybe pray for me) God recently gave me the idea about giving King Meemer an actual crown, one he will self-decorate, that he can wear for meals at home. I guess it is a reminder of who he is and what he is going to be. The eating like a king or royalty hopefully will be a gentle reminder, in a special way to help him overcome his fear, God has chosen him and placed him in a family where now he will be fed and loved, daily and always.

Of course I'd love your imput-my blog isn't about me talking, but about friendship and encouragement. Looking forward from hearing from some of you more quiet friends too (you know who I mean, hint-hint!

thanks so much for your prayers!

I am leaving your this video clip(from our adoption agency)to watch, grab a cup of coffee and maybe a box of tissues ...follow the link and click on Come Near and Rescue Me

ps- please come back and watch the other video's (under Come Near and Rescue Me) while I am on my family break-I think you will enjoy them and be touched by our Father. I'd love to hear from all of you!

I'm praying too! I'm sorry I don't have any insight on speech, but the crown sounds like a great idea for the table.
I just read your comment over at Conservachik's and I wanted to let you know what an encouragement it is to read about your girls. That's what we want and it gives hope to know that it can happen.
Blessings,
Angel

Love your blog. I just found it!
We adopted a little girl who had speech problems. We had months of speech therapy and I can remember the therapist would do this game where she would clap out the syllables of a silly sentence so my daughter could hear and articulate them all. My daughter loved that game, and her speech improved. Do this about 10 minutes a day... it'll click! Also, check your daughters tongue to make sure she is moving it properly, especially when chewing and eating. Her tongue should move food from side to side, front to back while she chews. If not, she will need to exercise her tongue (sounded weird to me, but it worked!) If that's the case, put a little dumdum lollypop through a hole at the bottom of a little plastic cup and duct tape it there. she will have to stick out her tongue to the bottom of the cup to lick it. Great exercise for that problem.
Hope this helps!

Enjoy your family during your break!

This is a bit off topic, but I thought you might be interested in hearing that I met a really sweet woman here in Antigua the other day. Her husband is a minister and they are adopting a beautiful baby girl.

She told me that she had been praying since they arrived that the paperwork would be ready in one month. Well, two days ago, the paperwork went through and it was 1 month and 1 day!

Just a bit of encouragement for your Guatemalan adoption. ;)

Hi Kimmie. Thanks for dropping by my site and leaving me a comment. It's so nice to "meet" you.

You have a beautiful site here and what a wonderful family you are! I'm Hungarian background so it was fun to see your Hungarian daughter.

Praying you'll have a wonderful family time!

Yes, I can empathize with food issues. I was amazed at how much food my then 4 year old son could consume….like 2 or 3 times the amount I ate! Almost 18 months later we are still working on manners like using silverware!!

Oh Kimmie, I think the crown idea is so wonderful! Just the perfect reminder for him, I think.

Please enjoy your time away and be blessed by the amazing people that make up your family (including yourself)!

I hope your time together is fruitful and that you are able to connect in the important ways, Kimmie. God has equipped you and your hubby to work with and love all of your children and he will bring the answers to light for both of you!

Hi Kimmie,
I just wanted to thank you for stopping by my blog last week. I've been away on vacation and am trying to get caught up on a lot of things, but I'll be back to visit you in the future.

I hope you enjoy your break and family time.

I also have a daughter with speech delays but we are in the beginning of trying to help her. I am sorry I do not have any words of wisdom for you.

Blessings,
Julie

Enjoy your break!

~on food: it could be so many things really...but often it comes down to control issues in one way or another, don't you think?

My son sneaks food during the night and hides it in his room. (He has been with us since infancy and never had any lack of food, so it's not a hoarding thing.)

I find it is best to not give the food issue too much attention...just act like he is behaving the same as everyone else. Once he realizes he can get a response from me (either positive or negative)over a food issue he just keeps on pressing that button.

I don't know, just musing...

May GOd bless you during this time away!

Katherine- I will implement your speech helps, thanks SO MUCH for sharing them with me. I am excited to begin putting them into action. God bless you for sharing them with me! ((((HUGS)))))

expat mom- thanks also for letting me know about the timing of your friends adoption-it certainly gives hope that God can do amazing things.

Sometimes the burdens seem so heavy, but what a blessing to have a kind and helpful word spoken to your heart, mind, soul and spirit. May God richly bless you for your love to me!

Would you be open to discussing adoption with me? We are interested, but don't know much about it. I watched the video you recommended with my two kids (2 & almost 4) and my oldest was insistant that I go get those kids and bring them home to our house.. now! We haven't discussed anything around them at all. All I could do was cry and smile. Would you mind my asking questions?
