Something God said...

As I was sitting the other day ('sitting' moments are few and far between these days of late)
the Holy Spirit told me something.
It was a new revelation (for me) about adoption. I will walk you through it.
  • We are called His bride.
  • We are also called the Church (true Believer's/followers).
  • God is the Husband.
  • We are the wife to the Husband.
  • The Husband has many names.
  • One of His names is ' The Spirit of Adoption.'
  • If we the Church are being prepared for the Husband. And the Husband is the Spirit of Adoption and we are being united to Him...
  • What Spirit do you think should rest on each of us?
  • What is this Husband's desire?
  • Especially relating to the commission/mandate that God (the Husband) has given us in James 1:27 (...take care of orphans).
Many, many times people tell me that I must have a special Grace. That they 'couldn't' do what I am doing. 'Adoption isn't for everyone you know..,' I've been told again and again.
I had spent the day thinking on this and this is why the Holy Spirit was giving me this new revelation. I am still chewing on it, trying to get my mind around it. I know that as we come to Him, He adopts us. But this kind of Spirit of adoption, that comes through the union of marriage is different.
I can attest that as a girl, that was called by God at 13, to adopt and marrying a man that knew this 'Spirit of adoption' of which I carried...has greatly influenced my husband. He has not had this same 'adoption' revelation then. But upon hearing of it, he said, "Yes."
So what should it look like for the Church? Believer's-His Bride? Is He only calling and giving a few of us the Grace for this? Or is it that some aren't willing, aren't open, perhaps have bought that 'some are Graced, while others are not.'
I do know that there are too many orphans. That each of our states have hundreds of children in the foster care system that need permanent 'forever' families. Never mind all of the orphans that are in other countries that are without families.
I am obsessed and passionate about this. I want to see movement in the Church. I am going to continue to pray with all that I have...anyone want to join me?
'What can I do about orphans Lord?'
ask Him....

*God as the Spirit of adoption ...Romans 8: 14-17

Well said, Kimmie. I would adopt again in a heartbeat. After struggling with our two oldest, my husband is not so sure. I will join you in prayer.

I don't know where you get the name "Spirit of Adoption" as one of Christ's names........we are adopted into God's family, yes.......we are called to care for widows and orphans, yes......I think that task will look different for each of us. For some, it means to adopt a houseful of orphans, as you have. For others, it may be supporting financially, or going overseas, or being a listening ear, or counseling, or providing food, or setting up group homes, or volunteering with the food bank, or however God leads an individual to serve.

I'm replying over here to your post on my blog!

My first adventure with Injera is coming up - but I'll warn you I wasn't a fan at first! No worries though - I LOVE Ethiopian food now!

God has worked some amazing things in me through Zari - I am so passionate about adopting and I plan to someday have my own little 'Zari' or 'Mercy'. :)

Hi Elsie;

I have added the text to where I find that God is the Spirit of adoption. Hope that helps.

I do agree that many will come along side those who adopt...but adoption or being the person who adopts is available to all of us, through God's Spirit. It isn't about us, it's about Him. I do understand that all Christians won't adopt...but wouldn't that be wonderful!
May His Kingdom come on earth, as it is in heaven...no orphans in heaven...that I KNOW!
