Pirate Hearts'

You want to know how I get my kids to eat beets?

I tell them they are pirate hearts'...
what can I tell you I am raising a twisted bunch of kids...

They fight for them now.

Hmmm, personally I think they are just like candy, of course fresh is better. When I am feeling better, I will grab a couple of bunches from the farm stand and we will enjoy fresh pirate hearts'!

I wonder if they taste different than the canned variety?

Argggggggh, Matey! hee hee....

Fresh beets are the best, Kimmie, so do pick some up if you are still able to get them from a farm market stand. I grew up eating canned pickled beets from the garden which is what I continue to do each year from my garden. Mmmmmmm!

We had canned growing up. I could successfully gag down one.

That's hilarious. My mom should have used that tactic on me...I don't like beets either.

LOL - that is just too funny!
My kids looooove beetroot - which is great! When I grew my own ( my last few batches all died under the HOT sun here) I used to pickle them using my granny's recipe - it is delicious!

How creative though. Glad it works for your kids. :)

I cannot believer they sell them in tins saying pirate hearts!! So funny!! My kids love tinned beetroot too. Fresh does taste different, not as salty, more like carrot I guess, if you grate it. I used to buy fresh and grate it into salads. Oh, the things I USED to do when I only had 1 child!! Must buy some fresh again. :)

I guess I never knew people ate beets because they liked them. I can't say I'm tempted to try them yet, but someday, maybe...

Hi! You don't know me, but I have 4 kiddoes adopted from Ethiopia. I was reading another blog (Shonna) and saw that you were looking for little snaps for your daughter's hair? There is a lady who sells them online to fund her adoption. The site is www.snapaholics.com
The prices are very reasonable.

Hope that helps!

Jill
