The Wisdom of God (The Heart of my Father)

Though I would not recommend it, we are almost done with our school for the year.  We worked at high speed pace, including Saturday school days, to finish our year's work before we brought our newest child home from Ethiopia.

Princess Sweetness is 13 years old and will need our total focus, my heart desires for us all is to just love her without interruption.  The last bit of our school year became just an interruption to my mind.  So I quickened the pace, so we could be as ready as we can for her (and for us!)  I am getting excited now, as we can finish up and still have time to enjoy a few days of organizing around here before my Knight and I have to leave for Ethiopia!

My thinking, early on, was to have closure for our school year, as when she comes I want to be focused on getting to know each other.  Bonding in adoption is the most important thing.

We have been advised to read many adoption books, through the agencies we have used now and in the past.  Most of the books I have read did NOT apply to any of the adoptions we have done.  Most I found focused on the negative and I refuse to live that way.   The way I see adoption and the process that begins even prior to you being *matched* is spiritual in nature. Something that is birthed in the heart of my heavenly Father and belongs to Him through all stages of the process.

All wisdom comes from God, this is where I will get it for every situation in my life; including this particular adoption.

 Adoption for me begins with God, the waiting time rests in God, the getting time does too; as does the time when you arrive home and become a family.  I haven't read an adoption book yet that tells you to trust God, to bring every detail before Him and trust Him alone to meet your every need.

You see, He cares so much about our families.  He cares a great deal for orphans and the helpless, their hope is in Him; as is ours.

I am not saying don't read books, I am saying to filter anything and everything you do through the fingers of the Holy Spirit.  What does He have to say about your life, about your current situation, about your future and your hope?

I will share what He speaks about mine:

Jeremiah 29:11 (The Message Bible)

I know what I'm doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.

So when I bump into people and they say something like, "How old is she?"  and I respond, "She is 13 years old." and they say (and A LOT of them do), "Wow, (big pause) that is going to be a real challenge."  or  "Oh, that is going to be really hard for you."

I am now able to walk away thinking, "Hmmm, God has me covered, I am not in this alone, He is going before me and will certainly bless and keep me."

Proverbs 8:32-35 (The Message)

"So, my dear friends, listen carefully;
those who embrace these my ways are most blessed.
Mark a life of discipline and live wisely;
don't squander your precious life.
Blessed the man, blessed the woman, who listens to me,
awake and ready for me each morning,
alert and responsive as I start my day's work.
When you find me, you find life, real life,
to say nothing of God's good pleasure.

Kimmie, not to tell you what to do,:) but have YOU ever prayed about writing that book that needs to be written about SPIRITUAL ADOPTIONS? You have learned to hear the Lord's voice, I think you have a lot to share with others.

It's too much to think about now, so just pray. The Lord will guide you if it is His will.

I am SO glad you had the wisdom to finish school early. I love how you love your little girl already. It is so beautiful. Praying!

Oh, Kimmie, I love this post!! I have been exposed to many stories lately about the hardships that come with toddler/older child adoption. While I am not naive & know that there will be many changes in our home, I also know that I am not in it alone. I have begun praying for much grace as a parent so that I may extend grace to our child that is coming into a new situation & who has experienced much that we have yet to discover about him.

Your reenforcement of God's hand & heart in our lives through these transitional times blessed me today!

It looks as though I am not the first with a gut reaction that there is a book waiting to be written from YOUR heart and experience. This whole past year or two for me has been learning to live by the Spirit. That often means that I am misunderstood, even by other believers. We live in this world that still discounts God's power and authority. He is a master story writer and each person is living a different one.

I'm starting to ramble, but my point is that you have so much to share and such a passion for adoption that I can not think of a better person to author such a book!

Praying for you and ALL of your family members as you prepare for Simenesh to come home!

Great idea to finish school early! (We are doing the same for the birth of our little one at the end of the summer....seems natural enough to me!!)

It's like a lot of life, isn't it? The best book to read is THE book...the Bible!

Always praying for you! {{{Kimmie}}}

Yes. I fully agree. So many adoption books we've read over the years are either not applicable or simply are written from a secular, therapeutic mindset and leave out the principles we cherish so much from God's word, not to mention the continual guidance of the Holy Spirit.

He knows exactly what He's doing. And He will equip all of us to the task He calls us to. PERIOD.

AND. He can do ALL THINGS. That means heal every trauma and every hurt and every.single.symptom.

I love Him for it.

Blessings to you, friend. He surely has you covered. :)

What a wonderful post! I so often struggle with my nearly 3 year old over how to handle his difficult behaviors/personality. I wonder what is genetic and what is trauma and what needs discipline and what is his personality and so on and so forth! I needed the reminder to take it all to our sovereign Lord! "Adopted for Life" by Russell D. Moore is a book I read that challenged what I was reading in some secular books.

Oh Kimmie, I hate NEGATIVE too! I'm not all fired up religious the way you are but I can see the devil lives in NEGATIVE. The whole area surrounding a negative person is an infectious bog waiting to suck you in, do you know how to help these people? I really wish I could help them but mostly they don’t want to be saved to the point of hating and despising you for trying. I was once infected by negativity, it was awful but thankfully someone took the time to save me, I think now that it must have been an angel.
