Mama Does a LOT of Braiding (Ethiopian Daughters)
Double the fun, double the braiding. Tiny girl is age 3. Bigger girl is now 15 years old. Both are proudly Ethiopian with a LOT of hair. My oldest Ethiopian says she seriously has enough hair for 4 people. (honestly she may be right, she has thick, thick curly hair).
The tiny braids on the littlest Princess took 3 plus hours. They last over a month, but looked a little like dreadlocks in the final days. Thankfully only about 1 1/2 hours for my oldest Ethiopian beauty. She got about 3 weeks out of her braids...not too bad considering they have a Mama who is self taught.
Never did I think I would learn to care for African hair.
Never once when I was braiding my own hair (french braids when I was a waitress),
did I ever think someday I would have two beautiful daughters who would NEED their hair braided. Braiding gives their hair a break from too much brushing, which leads to hair breakage for my girls.
Aren't they both just gorgeous?

They are! I am also a self taught braiding mama for only the past 20 months of my now almost 14 y.o. daughter. I can't imagine needing to do braids for two girls...ack! :)

They are gorgeous indeed, and I'm so happy to see how well cared for their hair is. It makes me sad when I see adopted kids who need the type of hair care your daughters are obviously getting, who have not gotten it! Bless you and yours!

Hi Kimmie, This post got me thinking, if the young lassie has hair for four - well I sure could do with some if you know what I mean! Maybe I could, like glue it on or something - what do you think? LOL!
They are beautiful & I love the braids!! What a mammoth task though ~ it must require a very patient mother & toddler to get her to stay still for 3 hours. Do you take a break?
I have always said I have enough hair for two people, but for 4 ~ your daughters are indeed blessed!

Yes, I did it in two time segments. The first two hours I contained her in the kitchen sink where she happily played. After lunch I worked on the back while she watched a video. It all has to be done in one day or I find it doesn't wear the same (meaning fuzziness occurring).
My older Ethiopian daughter thought I was insane to try to put such tiny braids on the baby...but my thinking was that it was near Christmas time, I had a girlfriend who I would be helping post mastectomy- desiring the longest possible hairstyle. (and taking it out was a bear...almost 2 hours to unto those tiny braids.)
videos, snacks and such make it much easier to appease a toddler or preschooler- of course bribery sometimes works too.
