I use the pressure cooker all the time, especially when I forget to thaw the roast and can have it on the table within one hour and still have it fall apart well done.
I don't have room for just a rice cooker!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4724432374556756119.post-69906082097343014392012-01-14T18:41:51.643-08:002012-01-14T18:41:51.643-08:00I love having one. I think I'll look into them a little more now. I often do our morning oatmeal in it - no worries about the oatmeal boiling over on the stove while I am getting the kids ready in the morning. It is also good for steaming veggies.Robinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15472109553620570411noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4724432374556756119.post-73482634047899527182012-01-13T09:22:57.310-08:002012-01-13T09:22:57.310-08:00I don't own a rice cooker, BUT they are great ...I don't own a rice cooker, BUT they are great time savers, even if you are good at cooking rice (I wasn't either until I learned the Guatemalan method of toasting rice before cooking it). So, since you could probably use a little more time and less frustration, I'd say yes! :)Expat Momhttp://expatmom.infonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4724432374556756119.post-44050686214628322172012-01-13T09:11:06.486-08:002012-01-13T09:11:06.486-08:00I've never used one...I always cook rice on th...I've never used one...I always cook rice on the stove or in the microwave. I'll pass on a trick I learned from my friends from Burma - put as much (or as little) rice as you want in the cooker, then add water until, when your pointer (1st) finger is set on the top of the rice, the water comes up to the first knuckle. Always the perfect amount of water - no fiddling around with measuring! Hope that made sense.
They can often be found at the thrift shop for super-cheap.
:) ErinErinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15162714926703800643noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4724432374556756119.post-42839703152282122312012-01-13T05:59:42.864-08:002012-01-13T05:59:42.864-08:00Kimmie, So many of our meals are veggies and rice!...Kimmie, So many of our meals are veggies and rice! We have and use a rice cooker. At least three times a week.
With so many distractions (read: kids) I was always burning the rice so we got a rice cooker. It saved me a lot of cleaning scorched pans. Here's what happens:
Put in rice, put in twice as much water, push cook.
The cooker does the rest and Turns Off when it's done. I still make rice at least once a week, and love my rice cooker. My mom still has her rice cooker that's about 15 years old now, and it's still working great. I had one for around 12 years before I replaced it with one that has a special setting for brown rice and one for mixed white/brown. I've had it for about 2 years now, and it's worth every penny I paid for it. This is the one I have (though I think I only paid around $120). http://www.amazon.com/Zojirushi-NS-ZCC18-10-Cup-Cooker-Premium/dp/B000A7NN4I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1326434316&sr=8-2

To answer your question: do you need one? No. But, they do make cooking rice super easy, and they're worth the money if you have extra funds and want one. :)Lesliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13266709102132743491noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4724432374556756119.post-48723560548666841282012-01-12T20:44:30.482-08:002012-01-12T20:44:30.482-08:00I've loved them in the past, but they die so q...I've loved them in the past, but they die so quickly.
