Homeschool kindergarten learning tools

Last year I had 3 new children who didn't know any letters, how to spell their names or how to read. Without any curriculum and just by simple means, I now have 3 more children who know not only their upper and lower case letters, but how to read. It's not hard, but just requires patience and time.
This game is simple: two colors card stock, pick one color for uppercase (capital) letters, the other for your lower case letters. Then take turns flipping over and finding the matching letters (and uppercase and lowercase of the same letter.) To move it to the next level, when a match is found, add the letter sound (or sounds) to the game. My 5 and 6 year olds are now playing with their younger brother King Bonkie...who is enjoying his learning time!
God certainly is in the drivers seat, as without the Holy Spirit's inspiration of what would 'work' with them, we wouldn't have made the strides we did.
Prayer it works!

That is a great simple idea! And cheap for me to make too! Thanks!

Hi Kimmie,
I finally got permission to take my (foster) kindergartner out of school. Thanks God for the answered prayer. He was not retaining anything and getting more and more frustrated. As the teacher told us she recommended him to repeat kindergarten anyway, I was finally given permission to take him out for the rest of the year from a reluctant social worker. After less than two weeks at home, he is now reading the early Bob books. Just needed some fun down time, nurturing at home and a mom who could spend the time with him. Wanted to share the good news with you :)

Hi Koe;

That is amazing...and I didn't know it was even possible.

We looked into it with our social worker, who thought it was a great idea. However, the 'highers up' made it clear that the only way it would be legal (here) is when adoption was finalized.

Sigh, it was a long year. Poor Princess Giggles had a mean old cranky, teacher...who retired at the end of that year, one year to late I'd have to say. My mama said if you have nothing nice to say, you should not say anything-guess her mama didn't tell her that bit of wisdom.

That is awesome...I'm praying with you and thanking God for his hand in it!

The best thing about prayer is that you don't have to know any "rules" about what you're praying about, you just learn to hear His voice and follow in faith. God knows all about how to do things, and He'll tell us what to do one step at a time!

Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105

Okay, maybe not quite literally the BEST thing, but pretty good, if you ask me!

Thanks for the idea Kimmie. Your right- The Lord is our driver and we should let him control the car. So, many times I have been a back seat driver with the Lord and missed out on seeing his blessing.

That is such a simple, yet wonderful idea! My 5 yr old knows all of his uppercase letters but not all of his lowercase. Now I have an excuse to head out to the craft store for some cute paper too.

I remember reading an older post of yours about Bob books. Do you know, are they only available on-line? I would love to be able to look one over before I buy it.
