Show and Tell

Today is Show and Tell Friday over at Kelli's ...come join the fun!

My treasure is actually the manger that this antique baby doll is laying in. We use it as Jesus' manger Christmas morning in our barn. My father was a welder and the base of this is made of wrought iron.

My Hungarian father, Laszlo, also etched the wood to make a pattern into its sides, kind of a criss-cross pattern. When I was a wee lass, my parents used this as a flower planter. My father learned welding from his father, who was the village blacksmith. My father created many beautiful things in his life time with iron, though I only have a few of them. Truly he was an artist and walked in the creativity that God gifted him with.

I lost my father 17 years ago, so I treasure this piece of him. I only use it for our Christmas celebration of our Savior's birth, as I am sure if I continued to fill it with soil and water that it would not last too long. It is a simple wooden planter, but honestly it is one of the things that is greatly precious to me, as is the Lord of my life-Jesus.

A "simple wooden planter"..somehow that says volumes about our Savior. He should have come in majesty and finery and yet He is found lying in a trough filled with cow slobbers! It breaks my heart to think of that. the next time He comes though, it will be a different story!
Thanks for sharing,
Connie

What a wonderful treasure from your father. I enjoyed reading about him. And how perfect to use it at Christmas to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Have a lovely weekend.

It´s simple, but lovely and filled with so many memories. I wouldn´t use it as a planter either, not as is. You could put potted plants in it though, with a plastic liner to keep it from being ruined. BUT, I think the fact that you save it for Christmas is very special. :)

P.S. There are now photos of the dreaded head wound. ;)

What a wonderful treasure. What blessed children you have. I see you are trying to adopt one from Ethiopia. My husband went to Ethiopia in 1988. Our church had a mission there and they went there to help with the famine. He brought back a lot of pictures and memories from that country.

Loved reading about your memories. One of my beautiful Christmas memories is self made Christmas sight (I’m sure it has different word in English) with manger, Jesus Child, shepherds…

Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog. You are welcome anytime.

Hey mama! Hope you don't mind me posting this here - but I wanted to answer your question. Nope, we don't use a diaper service and I wash diapers every day now that we have two in diapers. I like the wool covers because they are breathable and my kids seem to get diaper rash pretty easily with plastic pants/covers. It probably varies on the kid. I've heard good things about fleece covers and I love some of the AIO (all in one - a diaper and cover together, as easy as a disposable). The website where I learned about cloth diapers is here -- http://diaperpages.com Hope that helps! My second was almost 6 months old before we tried cloth, so that prooves its' never too late in your parenting path to learn new tricks LOL

Best Wishes!
